What do you love most about writing? I love when it’s done.
Who’s your favorite writer? There are too many to list, and the list changes all the time. Sherman Alexie and Graham Greene are always near the top, though.
Most of your stories are dark or sad, and sometimes dark and sad. Are you a depressed person? Sometimes. Not as much as before. Writing helps.
No MFA? What’s the deal? I can’t afford to get one. Also, sitting at a desk more than I already do — I just can’t do it.
As a technical editor, you must be aware of the Internet of Things; that is, the network of physical objects embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data. Do you worry that such a network could result in the kind of apocalyptic future depicted in, say, The Terminator, where the machines take over the world? Yes.
Why do you wear sunglasses in nearly all the photos taken of you? Do you think you’re Jackie O? No. The sun gives me headaches, that’s all.
